A Treasure Every Day!

I know I have taken it for granted many times.  Breathing.  We inhale through our noses, and we don’t realize how much of a gift it is.  Do you consider how many times you inhale per day? Its approximately 22 thousand times.

I love to go on walks, even if its chilly outside.  I bundle up and walk where its scenic-like around the beautiful ponderosa pines or beside the flowing creek.  Any place where there are trees and fresh moving water, you’ll find good quality air to breathe. Its a delightful experience because it can be very stress-relieving, and its certainly health-promoting.  When was the last time you took a break and went outdoors?  If you are looking for practical ways to improve your health, try getting more outdoor time.  Yes, even when its cold outside!  Bundle up. Give yourself a shot of vitalized oxygen and a dose of energizing sunshine. Do some kind of physical exercise outdoors every day and preferably in nature, where the air is the cleanest. The Scriptures offer this encouragement.  God created Adam in a garden.  He wanted Adam to work out in the fresh air and enjoy caring for the plants and animals. Do you think that God still wants us to enjoy the benefits of fresh air today? Yes, I believe He does.

At Black Hills Health Retreat, we talk about the benefits of the fresh air and encourage the guests to take advantage of it during their stay, starting with an early morning group walk.  No matter which season of year, its a delight to partake!

Here are five energy tips:

1. Breathe properly.  When we breathe properly, the lungs expand outward and downward. When we exhale, we should exhale fully, emptying the lungs as much as possible. This can make a huge difference in the quality of your life.

2. Take some deep breaths when you wake up in the morning and several times during the day. When you feel fatigued, and after sitting for more than 30 minutes, stand up and take time for several deep breaths; you’ll find it refreshing.

3. Check your posture: People with poor posture tend to slump.  This prevents the lungs from expanding fully and starves the vital organs of their essential oxygen supply. Its easier to feel tired if we are always slumped over.

4. After eating food that is high in fat, the blood is thicker and tends to clump together.  It can no longer carry oxygen into the smaller arteries as efficiently. Therefore, be aware of what you’re eating and the fat content.

5.  The air from musty, dusty bedding, fabrics, wall coverings, upholstery, and carpet can be very unhealthy and contribute to health problems. Allow for proper ventilation in your home and be sure to weekly vacuum carpeting, dust surfaces, and launder fabrics because they can be breeding grounds for germs and dust, which lessen the air quality in our homes, which then in turn affects health! It's a great idea to use a clothesline, so your fabrics have the fresh nature smell.

The Bible talks about God bringing winds out of His treasury. In Jeremiah 10:12,13, it says: “God has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His discretion. When He uttereth His voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and He causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; He maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasures. Without a doubt, fresh air is a special blessing from God—one that imparts an invigorating influence on the entire body. Why not do everything you can to make the most of God’s gift—fresh air!  See how your health can improve by incorporating more fresh air into your system and while you’re doing that, give God praise for His love to us in sharing His treasure with us!
