School of Massage FAQs:
Are there any fees to pay after graduation?
Yes, there are fees to pay after graduation. These include
MBBLEx-The cost to take the MBLEx is a $265 application fee to the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) and a $20 testing fee to Pearson VUE. This totals $285 for a first-time test taker, with both fees due again if you need to retake the exam.
Applying for your license in your state-Once you take the MBLEx and pass, there are other costs in applying for your state licensure. It depends on which state you are applying for licensure in, but an online search or a phone call to the state’s massage licensure board will inform you of the costs as well as additional administrative fees for processing the application, such as background check fee and fingerprints fee, if required.
CEUs-Please be aware that in many states, Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) are required. Inquire about your state’s number of CEU hours that are required and their frequency, as some require each year and others every two years. Count on paying some fees for these credits.
CPR Re-Certification-A part of obtaining your licensure is being certified in CPR/AED/First Aid. Check with your state, but most require this certification and its renewal every two years. During school you obtain your CPR certification, but after two years, its time to renew. Inquire with a local organization (such as American Red Cross) for fees.
Is there any financial assistance that I can obtain in order to go to school here?
As an institution, we are happy to have faithful donors who give to the Worthy Student Fund. Any student who feels a necessity to apply can do so. It is also noteworthy that a student can find smart ways to fundraise prior to their schooling. Here are 15 helpful and inspiring ways to raise funds…
1. Ask God to show you. If He calls you to go to massage school, then He will enable!
2. Parents are the next place to go. They usually help…ask them. They may have other ideas for other sources too!
3. Grandparents, uncles, aunts, and just anyone who loves you and understands your needs.
4. Be sure to tell who you’re asking how much school costs and let them know how much you already have and how much you need yet. If you don't ask, you don't get.
5. Gifts could possibly be tax deductible…ask us.
6. Be sure to tell them when you need the funds.
7. Work, work, work….find a job and put most of the money in the bank and use only what you absolutely need for living expenses.
8. Ask your church for help. Many people are waiting to be asked. Don't be afraid to ask and as Nike says, “Just Do it!”
9. Be sure to have a “case for support”-this means being able to explain WHY you want to be a massage therapist and why someone should support you in the first place. Tell them what is on your heart.
10. If people can’t give you money, maybe they could loan you funds until you start working and then start paying it back. You can also offer to give massages as payment is that is agreeable.
11. Start selling things on eBay, Facebook, MarketPlace or Craigslist-some people make a living out of it. What is in your closet or in your garage that you do not need?
12. Check out online personal fundraising, go to www.gofundme.com, which is a good place to start. Remember, cast your vision!
13. How about yard work or house cleaning? These are actually big businesses for many people during the summer months and even year around.
14. Leave no stones unturned…that means don't stop thinking and using your creativity to find ways to raise funds. Let people know you’re passionate about this!
15. Lastly, just like the first item at the top of this list, God owns the cattle on a thousand hills. Ask Him to show you where to go and who to ask!
